The SRDC is happy to have assisted and very excited for the City of Adrian. U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.6 Million for Electrical Infrastructure to Bolster Economic Growth in Adrian, Minnesota WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.6 million grant to the city of Adrian, Minnesota, for electrical infrastructure improvements to support business and job creation in the region. This grant will construct a new electrical substation and help purchase related equipment to mitigate future risk and vulnerability of the municipal electrical system. This EDA investment will be matched with $1.6 million in local funds and is expected to create or retain more than 175 jobs, according to grantee estimates. “The Biden-Harris Administration recognizes that infrastructure is key to expanding economic opportunities across the country – including in Adrian, Minnesota,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will ensure that fundamental power sources will be reliable for businesses to operate without disruptions, ensuring energy resilience for the region and opportunities for economic growth for decades to come.” “The U.S. Economic Development Administration is proud to partner with Adrian, Minnesota, as it addresses a critical infrastructure need in its community,” said Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Cristina Killingsworth. “This project will ensure that Adrian has the capacity for future business growth and enable existing businesses to flourish.” “A modernized power grid allows our rural communities to support local businesses and boost the economy,” said Senator Amy Klobuchar. “This federal funding will enable the city of Adrian to upgrade its electric utility infrastructure to deliver electricity more reliably and efficiently, making it more resilient for years to come.” “Reliable electricity is vital to every thriving community, and Adrian is no exception,” said Senator Tina Smith. “Thanks to the Biden–Harris administration, this grant will strengthen electricity grid infrastructure in Adrian, support local business and create jobs, and improve the lives of the community.” “Adrian, Minnesota is home to a growing business community that requires reliable power sources to maintain and expand operations,” said Representative Brad Finstad (MN-1). “I appreciate contributions that the U.S. Economic Development Administration has made to strengthen the integrity of the electrical systems in this community. This $1.6 million investment will ensure that Adrian has the necessary resources to continue to flourish.”
